Dogu statues are Japan’s earliest known humanoid and animal pottery figures created in open fire pits and date back to the Jomon period (10,000 BC to 300 BC). Coming in a range of colours, each dogu figurine is handmade and unique, making them a characterful addition to a home office or living room. They feature Jomon dogus’ stereotypical large eyes and intricate decorative details such as marks on the face and body, which suggest bamboo tattooing. This miniature dogu figurine can easily fit in the palm of your hand.
Dogu figurines have a mysterious allure but are generally regarded as talismans for good luck, safety and health. Many of the figurines appear to be female with small waists and wide hips, suggesting that they represented goddesses to the Jomon people.
