In 17th century Japan, the Shakuhachi was considered a religious tool among Zen monks. They believed that by mastering their breathing with the Shakuhachi, it would lead them to the path of enlightenment.
This Shakuhachi is beautifuly hand crafted by Jem Klein of Hosetsu Shakuhachi. Made from beautiful Torachiku (Tiger) Bamboo, this flute features a precision crafted Kinko-ryu Utaguchi made from durable black acrylic with an outline of sterling silver. Note: photographs show a typical 1.8 Shakuhachi. Individual photo's are available upon request.
This high quality Jiari-type Shakuhachi bamboo flute features a new cast-interior system, which uses a non-toxic, mineral based casting material for precisely shaping the bore of the Shakuhachi bamboo flute. This produces a beautifully clear, strong tone with a more precise pitch tuning which is consistently strong throughout the octaves. The interior is coated with a non-toxic black lacquer which improves the Shakuhachi’s durability, as well as adding a touch of elegance to the bamboo flute.
These student level Shakuhachi bamboo flutes are perfect for the beginning and advanced Shakuhachi student. The flute is electronically tuned to the key of 'D', to Western Standard Pitch in the minor pentatonic scale. This allows you to play with other instruments, as well as making it ideal for studying the traditional solo Shakuhachi Zen meditation pieces of music.
