Hyo Setsu Haku Handcrafted Japanese Tea Bowl
This product is unavailable
This handcrafted Yunomi Japanese ceramic tea cup is created by Hozan Tanii. The name Hyo Setsu Haku means ‘three layers’ in Japanese, and this name comes from the special techniques that Mr. Tanii developed to craft such an interesting looking tea cup.
Firstly, the particular white colour of the cup is not actually a glaze at all, but rather another layer of clay. This rare white clay was discovered by Mr. Tanii during one of his mountain strolls over 35 years ago, and after much experimentation with the clay, a special technique was devised which causes the network of tiny cracks to form on its surface, which happens due to the shrinking effect, upon kiln firing the cup, of the different layers of clay. Finally the third ‘layer’ is applied, by coating the surface of the Yunomi with a clear, protective glaze. The foot of the cup shows the natural, earthy colour of the clay used to make this stunning Yunomi tea cup.
Designed for two-handed use, this large sized cup is suitable for tea, but can also be used as a matcha powdered green tea bowl, or it would also make for a sophisticated coffee cup too.
Comes beautifully packaged in an elegant presentation box.
